These are the guidelines for the FIRST Misthaven Board Battle: The Secret Flight Of The Vilya. Future Misthaven Battles will be substantially different. This battle will take place about ten years before the description of the setting in the Suggestion board. Characters will not need to be as detailed for this board as they will be for future Misthaven Battles. I have decided that this battle will introduce characters to the setting via the battle not by careful research of created fluff posts. Once this Board Battle is complete all approved characters will be Archived(although in the future they may be used again for other Misthaven Battles). This will allow you to test out a character and then when the more elaborate setting is created can either be updated or ditched for a new character.


GUIDELINES:

First and foremost your character must adhere to the Guidelines set forth in the Character Creation Guidelines. No exceptions. So: No more than one character, No plagiarism in character creation, Stay in the setting, etc.

Characters are to be posted in the Character Creation Board like so: "Name(Misthaven) ". This will allow characters to be found easier in the Character Creation Board and also distinguish them from Other BBs.


SETTING:

Characters are to be from the fantasy setting Misthaven not time travellers, or transplanted space travellers, etc. The Setting is a fantasy setting with steam age technology, see the Misthaven Board Battle Suggestion for Setting Details.   Your character will not require an in-depth setting location.  The only setting the story should take place is the one created by the Battle Master.  This means no side stories taking place outside of the immediate board battle Ex: Battling your character's arch enemy in a misty dream.  Stick with the group where it is possible.

RACE:

Your character can be of one of the following Races:

Dwarves:  Short and broad in stature.  Great upper body strength.  Dwarves come in essentially two varieties: Classical Dwarves and Neo Dwarves.  Neo-Dwarves live on the surface in great villages of stone and timber.  They mine not gold or rubies, but Iron Ore, Copper, and the most important to the steam age Coal.  They still are irritable in bright light but typically grow taller than classical dwarves who look at Neo Dwarves in scorn.  Feuding is common between classical and neo-dwarves.   Neo Dwarves believe in the modern society and mine ores and coal to trade with humans for goods and technological ideas and equipment.  Classical Dwarves refuse to conform to modern society and prefer to stick to mining gold and jewels. Dwarves can carry much more than the other races.

Elves: Are an androgynous species of immortal beings.  Elven populations have dwindled considerably as the race although immortal have passed the torch onto other fair folk in the Five Realms.  Elves have slowly migrated away from all the cities and prefer to become one with nature.  As the flame from the forge of technological advancement burns brighter and brighter the life light of the elves dims darker and darker. Elven kings had pleaded on deaf ears for the end of machines and technological advancement but have become shunned by men and dwarf alike.   The elves who as they hold all life sacred refuse to violently appose the expansion of sciences of technology and machines have chosen to flee to their mountain sanctuaries.  Where they over watch the smoke of industry and the wafting steam of technological advancement rise into the choked out sky.  Elves are usually tall and beautiful, with the keenest eye sight, hearing, and nature sense of all the races of the Five Realms.  They move gracefully and are exceptionally athletic, capable of great acrobatic feats.

Half Elves: After the Great Purge(The crusade of Men and Dwarves to destroy the Orc and the Blighted ones) the lands of the Five Realms had been peaceful.  With this peace the kingdoms of Men, Elves and Dwarves decided in order not to war amongst themselves set up great treaties between the different races.  The Dwarves immediately claimed peace and returned to their mines to contently dig more jewels and gold, while Men and Elves so similar in most respects decided to intermarry.  Although years after the Purge and the Elves outlived their loved companions leaving such grief between the two races that seldom do Elves and Men mate anymore.   Although from these marriages a new race was spawned a combination of the two races.  The Half Elve, a creature of striking beauty and the most regal of features but the corruptible heart of men.   Half Elves are not immortal but can live twice as long as a man.  They typically do not have more than one sense stronger than a human, with sight being the usual.  They are still great acrobats but lack much of the grace of their elven kin.  Half Elves can have one sense being very acute, either be smell, sight, hearing or a sixth sense(pretty much a feeling of warning that bad things are about to happen)

Humans: The Men of the Five Realms vary from great technological geniuses to brutal barbarians.  Sea pirates roam the great inland sea while sky pirates in great aeroships soar the skies boarding the aero caravan aeroships to steal loot.  To the far southeast a great race of imperial humans live refusing to accept the truces of old.  The Imperial humans wage a war of genocide against the Orckind, threatening war against all who stand against them.   Barbarians roam the northern mountains and Steppe horsemen traverse the great hilly east lands.   Humans are the most numerous and most varied of the races.   


Halflings: Short species of men who live to be between 150 and 200 years old. They enjoy tilling earth and being lazy, spending the majority of their time feasting.  They are fond of ales and song.  Although many have grown fond of adventuring.  They are strong of heart and strong of voice.  Typically pessimistic and clumsy but have the redeeming factor of being pure of heart.  Halflings rarely steal or turn to thievery.  Halflings are always trusty companions and great healers.  They are great friends to the elves as they too have a great love for the earth and nature.

Currently no exceptions to these.  There maybe new species or races in the future with future Board Battles.

BACKSTORY:

Currently no back story is necessary for you character.  It can be generic.  Say you were a warrior who has fought many battles(either too many to list, or none of any importance) or a mercenary who travels city to city either ending up as a bodyguard or joined up in a crusade against Orckind.   Back story is not essential as this story will attempt to be more action oriented and less focused on character development.  Adventure is the most important aspect of this story.  Please be vague for this story future stories you can expand deeper into your character's back story and create friends or NPCs or such.

DESCRIPTION:   

A detailed description of features is required so that they can be used to give life to your character.  It's preferred to be as detailed as possible.  Simply saying your character has brown hair and green eyes does not give other members a good idea of what your character appears like.  It would be better to describe your character as having an unkempt tangle of auburn locks and deep set piercing hazel eyes which always scan for danger.   Be descriptive, although this story will not require as much detail as future stories it always adds to the story for other Board Battle members to get a feel for their companions.

EQUIPMENT:

Characters can have essentially only equipment that they can carry.  The story will take place gathering a group of individuals pretty much down on their luck(or insane to take on a dangerous adventure for little pay).  Equipment can be slightly tech based, but nothing magical unless approved by the Battle Master.   An example would be a hand cranked illuminated torch.   Basic Fantasy equipment is common place.  Leather and cloth are the basic variety of satchels and bags with tin canteens and metal tools being common.   Pretty much if it exists in the Renaissance time-frame in exists in the Five Realms.

WEAPONS:

Weapons can be of the obvious two varieties, close quartered and ranged.   Ranged weapons can be powder projectile weapons or bows or crossbows.  Black powder weapons are still loud and crude, pistollas, pistols, musketoons, and a wide variety of black powder guns exist.  Of this their are three types the cheapest the matchlock(Where a lit wick fused is used to ignite a flash-pan and fire the gun, horrible in wet weather), the Flintlock(Where a piece of flint strikes steel and sparks touching off the gun) or the wheelock(a complicated firearm where a clockwork wheel is spun working a clockwork mechanism and when the trigger is pulled it a piece of pyrite strikes steel firing off the weapon, VERY expensive).     Dwarves prefer flintlock, where in Orckind typically use matchlock, humans use a mix of wheelock and flintlock.  All weapons are loaded from the muzzle, their are no casings or rounds except in large weapons called Cylinder Guns which are not man portable.
Any type of shield, or weapon can be used from a fantasy setting.  Typical weapons for the Misthaven area is the Pike and the Rapier.  Pikers are the standard line troops interspersed with musketeers who harry at range to break up enemy formations.  Spears, lances, maces, axes and anything in between is acceptable.   

ARMOR

Armor can be simple or ornate although can very from Copper, Bronze, Iron or steel.  Mithril is still extremely rare and not worn by any common soldier.  Gold is inlaid and armor is typically finely decorated.  Helms are typically open faced and have poms or plumes atop them of horse or animal hair dyed to a variety of bright colors.   Helmets typically aren't work by air crews as they obstruct the view and at high altitudes freeze to your head...



A Character for this story can have a handful of weapons, light armor, and as much equipment as they can carry comfortably.  Most of the necessary equipment will be provided in the story.   If you have any questions or would like to discuss your character idea with the Battlehost feel free to PM or email me.  I will gladly give any input.  Character submissions must be in by May 20th.
