Sethranas Ravenhall "The Steel Rider" (Westward)
« on: October 04, 2013, 01:01:56 AM »

Appearance:

Sethranas Ravenhall is a lean figure always seen wearing his typical combination of black duster, gloves, and goggles. His short black hair is somewhat messy, but it is a look befitting of an engineer such as he. His chin is clean shaven, something of a necessity when working with steam and high-temperature technology on such a close level. His face is narrow and sharp, giving him something of a medieval look, rather than the typical square jaws and strong cheeks of most people. His appearance owes to the blood of his father, whose blood has carried those features all the way down from three centuries ago in the initial landing. His duster has a hood that pulls down to his eyes, and his gloves have metallic plates with inserts in the back of the palm for the pneumatic Recoil-Dampening gauntlets, a pair of metallic bracers on his wrists that connect to his gloves to help his arms handle the recoil of his twin Colt .45 revolvers.

His motorcycle is a unique piece of technology, a lean, wheeled device that people refer to as a "Steel Horse" at first sight. Its metallic frame is black with bronze trims, and on its side is a bag containing all of the tools Seth could need in his line of work. The Key to the strange device, when not in the motorcycle itself, is always dangling from Seth's neck; a short device, equal parts key and thin Tribium wiring, that he inserts into the main body of the Motorcycle to start its engine.

History:

"Son, there are only two things you can rely on in this world. Family, and yourself. If you can't keep in touch with your family, you'll have to take care of yourself. Always have skills that can earn you food, and always have a plan to survive."

These were the last words the Sixteen-year-old Seth heard from his father before their caravan was set upon by Ferals. Seth's Father had been an engineer on call from the capital to oversee maintenance and repairs of the operations that the capital deemed significant enough to keep running. He had taken Seth along to teach him more of the craft. It was a job that had been his family's occupation for generations, and it was what kept the Ravenhall house important in the eyes of the government. There weren't many on this world who could do more with a wrench and some time than the Ravenhalls could. But that family line nearly came to an end in the violent gunfire of a Feral ransacking. Seth only survived because his father held off a group of them with an old shotgun while he sat his son on his prototype motorcycle, the experiment that had likely led the savages to attack in the first place, and sent him riding off into the night.

The Bike broke down shortly after reaching the nearest town, and from that minute forward it was up to Seth to care for both himself, and the motorcycle that was the only remaining memento he had of his family. He knew there was no way for him to make it back before the Capital erased him from their data stores. Not with the bike. And there was no way he was leaving the bike behind. It was the closest thing he had left to family in this godforsaken land.

So he hauled the bike into the nearest alley he could find, covered it in a ragged tarp, and found his way to the nearest inn that was still in eyesight of the bike's hiding place. He traded his mechanical skills for a place to sleep and some food and drink, and began his new life.

After he fixed the motorcycle, he never stayed in one place for long. He traded his work repairing an irrigation system in town for a pair of revolvers before he left, gunned the engine, and never looked back. In the next town he traded for some scrap and pieces to improve the bike. In the next he helped repair the local Generators in exchange for provisions, tools, and some tech to work on.

The cycle continued on for years, until he reached the state he is in now, travelling through the land, trading his considerable engineering skill for necessities and materials.
