The Legion Immortalis- NPC Guide
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:12:24 AM »
General Information

This section will house all information on prominent NPCs in the storyline. As you meet each character, a mini-bio will be kept and updated here. If you choose to further discourse with certain NPCs you will also receive additional information relevant to the setting, specific groups of people, and backgrounds for each character. As you uncover more information about each character, it will be chronicled here so that you may reference it later.

Allies

If you interact with a certain NPC enough, you may reach high social standing with them. If this occurs, you will be given an "Ally Benefit." These means the NPC will give you something of value. It could be an item, a spell, an ability, etc. If you have a good working relationship with an NPC, they will be willing to train you and aid you in your pursuits.

Romance Subplots

Should you be interested in pursuing this course of action, there are several NPCs who can serve as love interests for you character. Not only does this help to enrich the story, but each love interest NPC will provide you with an additional benefit. These benefits are typically more powerful than the ones you would acquire for ally standing. It may be a rare item, an extra spell (or spells) from their Legendary Spellbook, a Legendary Attribute, a skill, etc.

However, in order to effectively romance a character, you will find that each one looks for specific qualities.  You may greatly improve your chances at success if you meet these requirements. Requirements will never be overtly stated, but can often be inferred. For example, if a character is an Intelligence-based magic user, they may be interested in PCs who are like them. If there is an NPC that is military-oriented, they might honor those who have Strength or Constitution as a primary stat.

Bear in mind, that if you outright neglect an NPC after you acquire their benefit, much as any scorned lover, they will revoke your benefits from you. In order to keep high standing with both romance characters and ally characters, you must interact with them at least occasionally.

I would highly caution you against taking the Cassanova approach in order to maximize your benefits. Ageless talk to each other, and your ruse will quickly be found out.

Final Thought

The NPCs aren't in charge of driving the plot: YOU ARE. However, the NPCs are there for your use, so feel free to use them as you see fit. Interact with them, ask questions, pursue ally or romance options, or attempt to recruit them for your adventures. However, do not god-mod NPCs; NPCs always serve a greater purpose in the story.

Cleo Seer (Soothsayer)

Mortal Name: Cleominae Kharis
Titles: The Lady of the Mists, The Guardian of the Gates, The Witch of the Wastes

Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5’9’’
Weight: 140
Physical Age: 26
Actual Age: 800+

As the Soothsayer for the Ageless, it is Cleo’s responsibility to verify that those who are sent to her are legitimately Ageless. Several years ago, the Forsaken were using powerful enchantments to allow humans to pose as Ageless. They were supposed to be sent to Avalon to infiltrate as spies. Luckily, only one of them ever managed to pull the wool over Cleo’s eyes, and that unfortunate soul did not make it too far. He was struck down at the gates by Blood.

Thus far, Cleo has shown herself to be a being of immense power. However, despite the degree of her abilities, she maintains a certain vulnerability.

Ally
If you visit Cleo and periodically converse with her, she will grant you additional spells and skill training in Intelligence and Wisdom.

Romance
As the Seer is one of the greatest authorities on magic that the Ageless has to offer, many of the benefits she will provide her suitor will be Intelligence/Wisdom based. The more you choose to interact with Cleo, the greater her benefits will become. There are several ways you can improve your romance standing with her.

- Converse with her. Cleo suffers from her seclusion and any human interaction is enough to make her happy. She will talk to you about all manner of things, but particularly enjoys discussing magic.
- Uncover Cleo's origin story.
- Make visits to her.
- Bring her thoughtful gifts.

Romance Progression

Level 1: Mark
You have chosen to pursue a romance with the Seer. She has placed a mark upon you to identify her regard for you. This is cosmetic only and provides no benefits,. However, it will open additional dialogue with other NPCs.

Level 2: Sigil of Summon Seer
Allows you to summon the Seer to your side for a brief period of time. However, as Cleo has other obligations, this MUST BE USED SPARINGLY.

Level 3: New Spell

Level 4: New Attribute, or further training in an existing one.

Level 5: New Skill. Cleo will provide you with a new Intelligence or Wisdom related skill.

Level 6: Special Item

Level 7: BIG SURPRISE       * This can only be activated if you choose to make an "Oath" to Cleo. By doing so, you are committing to an exclusive relationship to her for the duration of the story*

Level 8: Cleo's Spellbook. Cleo will grant you FIVE of her most powerful Legendary Spells.    *This can only be activated with the ultimate show of your commitment. In order to unlock this option, this requires marrying Cleo.*

If you manage to reach Level 8, you will periodically unlock new spells from Cleo's Spellbook.

Origin:

As a mortal, Cleo was raised as a simple peasant girl. Her mother died in childbirth, leaving Cleo’s loving father, Zachariah, to raise her alone. Cleo’s father was both a farmer and carpenter, and the young girl enjoyed aiding him in his work. She was a happy, carefree child, whose smiles never ceased and whose kind nature extended to all living things, especially animals. She was very intelligent, and treasured whatever meager scraps of text her father managed to procure for her. When reading material was scarce, Zachariah would make up stories for her, and she would hang on to his every word as he told her of far off places and friendly strangers with unusual customs.

When Cleo was in her early teens, her father remarried. Cleo got along well with her step-mother, Rebecca, and was quite excited when her father informed her she would be an older sister. When her younger brother, Samuel, was born, she spent every waking moment with the infant, coddling him and telling him the same stories that her father had shared with her.

The little family was happy for several months, but their joy was not meant to endure. Cleo’s step-mother was the first to become ill. It was not long before the sickness claimed her and was passed to the other members of the household. Cleo stood by her father as he succumbed to his affliction, and merely days after he passed, she held her infant brother in her arms as he, too, was claimed by illness. Only Cleo was spared, but rather than celebrating her survival, the other townsfolk began to view her with suspicion. The illness continued to sweep through the town, yet Cleo remained unaffected.

Because of the nature of the illness, Cleo’s family home was burned to ashes, along with all of the belongings within. Cleo managed to save her little brother’s stuffed bear, Sylvester, a memento she would carry with her for the rest of her days.

Despite her genuine kindness, the other townsfolk still crossed to the other side of the street when she came to town. With nowhere to go, Cleo was forced to reflect upon all her father had taught her. She was able to build a small dwelling at the edge of the woods where she lived for several years in complete solitude.

No other human ever came to visit, but she enjoyed the company of small animals and would address them as if they understood her. This only furthered the suspicion in the minds of the townsfolk. Whenever she ventured into town for the few meager supplies she could afford, people would point at her and she could hear them whisper the word “witch.”  Thus, she visited the town even less, and the loneliness became unbearable. She yearned for company or some minor regard from the other villagers.

Cleo was in her mid-20’s when ruin descended upon the town. All of the crops failed and the same plague that had claimed Cleo’s family swept through the village again. The townsfolk turned their eyes to the little hut near the woods. They walked with purpose as they held their torches high and made their way towards Cleo’s home.

Cleo was ripped from her cot and dragged to the town square. She watched in horror as her home burned to the ground and cried out for Sylvester, her brother’s teddy bear, as it smoldered in the flames. Cleo was bound to a pyre in the center of the town and she pleaded her innocence as they piled the kindling around her. She watched, powerless to stop them, as they set their torches upon the wood before her.

Cleo could feel her skin begin to burn and her lungs begin to grow tight; she knew that she was dying. As the flames engulfed her, she found it ironic that she was finally surrounded by people, but never had she felt so alone.

Suddenly, her lungs found air as she realized that her bindings were loose. Her legs shook as she stumbled out of the fire, a look of confusion present upon her scarred face. As she looked upon her executioners, the flames upon her body disintegrated into nothingness, and the harsh red marks that marred her skin faded considerably, but did not retreat altogether. The townsfolk fled in horror at what they had seen, leaving Cleo alone again.

The Revenge of Severan Deceit

It was Cleo who revealed the prophecy that would shape the life of Severan Deceit. When he arrived at the Gates of Avalon, she saw that he would one day betray them and related this news to the Archon and the Elder Council. She admitted that there is always at least a slight chance the future may change, and the Archon and the General began to mentor the young man.

However, despite their best efforts, there were still people who condemned Severan for the prophecy. During his naming ceremony, the Archon gave him the name Severan Victor, yet there were others who referred to him as Severan Deceit.

Severan sought his solace outside of the Gates of Avalon, and it was there he came upon the Adversary. The deal was struck and when Severan returned to the city of the Ageless, it was with rage in his heart.

Cleo was charged with guarding the gates that night, and though she sensed Severan’s discontent, she could not confirm his intentions with certainty. She attempted to warn the others, but Severan had already made it to the Elder Council.

Cleo blamed herself for the destruction that Severan brought to Avalon and she became despondent due to her guilt. The Archon suggested that she seek redemption by seeing to the future security of Avalon. The city was relocated and hidden, and by the will of the Divine and the words of the Archon, Cleo became the Guardian of the Gates. Though she is exceptionally lonely, she has refuted all entreaties from her friends to return home. She still carries the burden of guilt and feels that the security of the Ageless is her job, and hers alone.

Relationships

After her ordeal, Dethys Night personally came to collect her and took her on as a pupil. She has spent her Ageless life practicing magic, the very thing she had been falsely accused of so long ago. As her Death Wound was inflicted by flames, this is the only way she can die again. She maintains a certain sense of humor and is a genuinely caring soul, showing kindness to those she cares for. She enjoys taking care of animals, and is fiercely protective of the weak, as well as those whom she is loyal to.

Since becoming an Ageless, she has come to depend upon her close circle of friends. She abhors being alone and becomes agitated when isolated for long periods of time.  She greatly admires Dethys, and while she maintains he is more powerful than her, he disagrees, saying that she is the superior magic-user. She enjoys the company of Capt. Blood, who occasionally comes to play cards with her, and has a great respect for General Fury. She treats Hestia as the mother she never had, despite the fact that Hestia is slightly younger than her in terms of being an Ageless. Cleo is exceptionally loyal to the Archon, and is often soothed by his kindness towards her.

Dethys Night (Librarian)

Mortal Name: ?
Titles: High-Mage of Avalon, First Scribe of the Sacred Order, The Shadow of the Raven

Hair: pale blonde
Eyes: piercing green
Height: 6'0''
Weight: 160
Physical Age: 27
Actual Age: 1,000

The self-proclaimed "Babysitter of Childer Immortalis," Dethys is an elder Ageless who is often tasked with mentoring Young Ageless as they arrive in Avalon. He is an exceptionally powerful mage, and the third eldest of the Ageless, behind only Fury and the Archon.

He enjoys casting spells and experimenting, though often his experiments do not go as planned, resulting in the loss of eyebrows from his apprentices.

He is the master of Serenity and Constancy, and had once taken the entity in Fenwick's book, Cardack, as an apprentice as well.

He is very close to both Fury and Blood, though he often squabbles with the latter. He has a wife named Carina and a son named Laertan.

Callidora Serenity (Apprentice Mage)

Mortal Name: ?
Titles: None

Hair: auburn
Eyes: brown (w/glasses)
Height: 5'4''
Weight: 110
Physical Age: 20
Actual Age: 55

Brogan Constancy (Apprentice Mage)

Mortal Name: ?
Titles: None

Hair: black
Eyes: green
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 180
Physical Age: 23
Actual Age: 58

Serenity and Constancy are apprentice mages under the tutelage of Dethys Night. They are biologically brother and sister, and when they were mortals, died while attempting to protect each other. Unfortunately, their arts were underdeveloped and the two accidentally struck each other.

Serenity is exceptionally kind and very soft-spoken. She shares a close bond with her brother and defers to his judgment on matters of great importance.

Constancy is fiercely protective of his younger sister and quite suspicious of strangers.

Allies
As the apprentices of Dethys Night, should you interact with them, both Serenity and Constancy can provide you with an additional spell.

Romance (Serenity)

As Serenity has not been an Ageless for very long, she cannot provide the plethora of benefits that some of the other romance options do. However, what she lacks in bonuses, she makes up for with her genuine, kindhearted personality. Her scope of attributes is limited and she can only offer Intelligence-based benefits.

- Compliment her intelligence and/or beauty. Serenity's self-esteem is quite low, and she would do well with being reminded of her good qualities.
- Uncover Serenity's origin story.
- Visit her.
- Bring her thoughtful gifts, especially rare curiosities.
- Seek approval from her brother, Constancy.

Romance Progression

Level 1: Ring
You have chosen to pursue a romance with the Apprentice. She has given you a rink to identify her regard for you. This is cosmetic only and provides no benefits,. However, it will open additional dialogue with other NPCs.

Level 2: New Spell- Intelligence

Level 3: New Spell- Intelligence

Level 4: New Skill- Intelligence

Level 5: Special Item. * This can only be activated if you choose to make an "Oath" to Serenity. By doing so, you are committing to an exclusive relationship to her for the duration of the story*

Cyan

Not much is known about the unusual, blue, cat-like creature that was sent to fetch Faran Beshral. According to Cyan, he was charged with this task by Dethys Night. Cleo mentions that he is something called a Cath-Palug and is a rather infamous procrastinator.

Hestia Hearth (Healer)

Mortal Name: ?
Titles:

Hair: gray
Eyes: violet
Height: 5'9''
Weight: 125
Physical Age: 54
Actual Age: 750+

Hestia is an elder Ageless who excels in all manner of wisdom. She is an exceptional healer, capable of mending even the most grievous of wounds in her Ageless peers and their human allies.

Hestia has a rather grandmotherly quality about her. She shows immense compassion for others and is able to put nearly anybody at ease. She believes that every living being is capable of redemption.

Ally
If you visit Hestia and periodically converse with her, she will grant you additional spells and skill training in Wisdom and Intelligence.

Backstory

Thus far, little is known of Hestia's backstory. She mentions that she was once married to Aldin, the Captain of the Guard in their little village.  She  seems to have loved her husband deeply and seems rather sad when discussing her past.

She has also mentioned that the village where she lived was sheltered, and rather free from any form of evil... At least until the denizens of the Adversary appeared on their doorstep.

It was also revealed that Hestia had a relationship with Cardack, the former apprentice of Dethys Night and the entity that resides in Fenwick's book. Hestia reveals that Cardack departed without saying goodbye and action that seems to have nearly broken the woman's heart. Recently, however, it seems that the two have (somehow) managed to rekindle their relationship, despite Cardack's lack of tangible body.

Adaline Muse (Minstrel)

Mortal Name: ?
Titles:

Hair: red
Eyes: blue
Height: 5'7''
Weight: 120
Physical Age: 26
Actual Age: 300+

Ally
If you visit Muse and periodically converse with her, she will grant you additional spells and skill training in Wisdom and Dexterity.

Romance
Muse has an excellent command over Wisdom and Dexterity. As such, many of the benefits she will provide her suitor will be based upon these attributes. The more you choose to interact with Muse, the greater her benefits will become. There are several ways you can improve your romance standing with her.

- Converse/exhibit interest in her music. Muse takes her arts very seriously and if you compliment her attitude or attend her impromptu concerts in the square of Avalon, she will certainly gain respect for you.
- Uncover Muse's origin story.
- Visit her.
- Bring her thoughtful gifts, especially those related to music.

Romance Progression

Level 1: Necklace
You have chosen to pursue a romance with the Muse. She has gifted you with a simple rope necklace to identify her regard for you. This is cosmetic only and provides no benefits,. However, it will open additional dialogue with other NPCs.

Level 2: Sheet Music
Allows you to harness Muse's ability to soothe with song. This can only be used once per battle, but can be used to calm a single creature, or to put a single, non-boss target to sleep.

Level 3: New Wisdom Spell. If you do not already have wisdom as an attribute, this can be swapped with Level 4. Thus, you will receive Wisdom training at Level 3, and will receive a new wisdom spell at level 4.

Level 4: New Attribute, or further training in an existing one.

Level 5: New Skill. Muse will provide you with a new Wisdom or Dexterity related skill.

Level 6: Special Item

Level 7: LEGENDARY ITEM       * This can only be activated if you choose to make an "Oath" to Muse. By doing so, you are committing to an exclusive relationship to her for the duration of the story*

Level 8: Muse's Songbook. Muse will grant you FIVE of her most powerful Legendary Spells.    *This can only be activated with the ultimate show of your commitment. In order to unlock this option, this requires marrying Muse.*

If you manage to reach Level 8, you will periodically unlock new spells from Muse's Songbook.

Background

The Princess Muse

When she was a mortal, Muse was a member of a royal family. Her father was the king’s brother, and when her uncle died, her father took the throne. Adaline was an only child and her mother died when she was young. Her father was often called away for diplomatic purposes so she spent a great deal of time alone.

Though Muse was a princess, she did not care for life as a member of the nobility. Because of her position, she felt that she was more of a symbol than an actual person, and despite being doted upon and well-regarded by the people of the kingdom, she felt as if no one knew 'the real Adaline.'

Adaline's father was a rather inept king, and the country suffered under his reign. They executed him, and in their fury, the villagers turned their ire towards Muse. As his sole, remaining heir, she knew she may very well be next, so she embarked on a journey of personal discovery. She traveled extensively and brought hope and joy to those who desperately needed it, both through her songs, and the abilities to heal that she picked up along the way.

Blood's Death Wound is a diamond-shaped scar upon her forehead. It was inflicted by the spear of Severan Deceit.

Duty and Honor

Blood spent the majority of her mortal life as the Captain of her City Guard. She had always been one to trust her gut instinct and several days before the Forsaken arrived upon her doorstep, she felt that some ill would befall the city. She tried to convince her superiors that fortifications should be made and the innocents should be hidden within the confines of the City Hall, as it was the most secure establishment there. However, her superiors would hear nothing of it.

When the assault finally came, Blood did all she could to save as many lives as possible. She was very successful, though there were, of course, some casualties, though not nearly as many as if she had not fought so valiantly to aid them.

Because of this incident, Blood suffers from something similar to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She can’t see the lives she has saved, only the lives that were lost, the people she could not save. Now, she commits the entirety of her waking life to protecting others. She is nearly fanatical about this task, but there are few who are as dedicated to the protection of both humans and Ageless as she.

It grows from only ONE tree in the heart of the Besel Woods. The string is woven from a particularly strong spider’s web. His name is Belloch, and he is the largest, and likely oldest, spider that has ever lived. Archer came upon him once when she was scouting in the human realm. Bran Thane

Titles: None

Hair: black
Eyes: blue
Height: 5'7''
Weight: 160
Age: 15
Weapons: Broadsword and shield
Armor: Custom plate armor designed by Armen Smith. The armor has the ability to reflect damage and repel spells.

Family:
Father- The Archon, Oran Raven
Mother- General Deya Fury
Siblings- Dennan Justice and Corvus Virtue

Notable Friendships:
Dethys Night (he refers to him as his "Uncle.")

Bran is the youngest son of Archon Oran Raven and General Deya Fury. He is the spitting image of his father in both looks and demeanor, though there is a fair amount of Fury in him as well.

As Bran is a mortal, he has not gone through the naming ceremony of the Ageless, though some argue his father’s mortal surname, which he was given at birth, is quite appropriate. Despite the fact he is not immortal, he still exhibits impressive command in Charisma, Strength, and Constitution.

He is exceptionally brave, but calm under pressure. Despite his youth, he has already made several visit to the front lines, all of which have been under his father's watchful eyes. Many wonder whether he, like his older brothers, will become an Ageless.

Cardack Silenus (Phantom)

Mortal Name: same. Never received the Naming Ceremony.
Titles: The Wet-Blanket (according to Dethys), The Pacifist Mage

Appearance: Ghostly torso and head with long, shoulder length hair.

Physical Age
: 34

Actual Age: 300+

Cardack was a former apprentice of Dethys Night. He was a pacifist by nature and had not interest in pursuing war or fighting Forsaken. He declined to join the Bulwark and after spending some time under Dethys's watchful eye, he decided to strike out on his own.

When he left, he took with him an experiment he and his master had been working on. It was a phylactery in the form of a spellbook. While off on his own, he was encountered by Lieutenant Cauter, Severan's right-hand. He was unceremoniously beaten to death (just as he had been in his mortal life) thus fulfilling his Death Wound.

However, in his final moments, he cast a binding spell to attach himself to the book.

Cardack has said he once had a relationship with Hestia Hearth, whom he never said 'goodbye' to before he departed.

Galenus Calming (Tavern-Keep)

Mortal Name: The Voice of Reason
Titles:

Hair: light brown
Eyes: green
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 210
Physical Age: 27
Actual Age: 350+

Galenus runs the tavern in Avalon and is both the barkeep and an impromptu mediator. The Archon recognized his innate ability to calm people and diffuse troublesome situations, hence his Heart's Name, Calming. He seems to be one of the few people who can reason with Blood when she is enraged and is well-respected in Ageless society.

Calming tends to be a fixture in Avalon, but is occasionally sent to the human realm to bring comfort to the destitute and reason with stubborn ill-contents. When in combat, he prefers to use non-lethal force. His weapon of choice is a long, wooden staff. He is also quite adept at submission holds, sleeper holds, and brawling in general.

Cedric Fierce (Lieutenant of The Bulwark of Heaven, Leader of The Fierce Legion)

Mortal Name: Cedric Alexei
Titles:

Hair: black/gray
Eyes: blue
Height: 6'6''
Weight: 250
Physical Age: 48
Actual Age: 500+

General Fury's trusted ally and second-in-command. Lieutenant Fierce is cautious and often skeptical. He is a brilliant tactician and skilled warrior.

He has a soft spot for mortal women and has been married several times. He has twelve daughters whose ages range from Aella, in her late teens, to Emina, in her late 60's.

As a mortal, he was known as Cedric Alexei. He was the king of all the barbarian tribes in North Vighardur. His personal army was comprised of berserkers, men who were driven to frenzy in battle. The Fierce Legion, his company, fights in much the same way.

Dennan Justice

Mortal Name: Dennan Thane
Titles:

Hair: dark brown
Eyes: piercing green eyes
Height: about 7'
Weight: 315
Physical Age: 25
Actual Age: 75
Distinguishing Features: black tribal tattoos on his arms, chest, and neck
Weapons: Moonsilver Greataxe
Armor: Custom leather armor designed by Armen Smith. His armor is easily as strong as platemail, and contains several enchantments to keep the mountainous man protected, should anyone be foolish enough to come so close to him.

Family:
Father- The Archon, Oran Raven
Mother- General Deya Fury
Siblings- Corvus Virtue (twin) and Bran Thane

Notable Friendships:
Fensten (his bear,) Gladia Archer, Dethys Night (he refers to him as his "Uncle.")

Dennan is the larger of the twins and is far more reserved than his brother. He rarely speaks, unless he has something very important to say, and is more prone to observe others than to interact with them. This makes him exceptionally perceptive and he can often get an accurate read on people quite easily. He is a mountainous, giant of a young man and has a very muscular build.
Dennan is very protective of his brother and often throws himself into harm’s way to bail Corvus out of trouble. He is extremely selfless and very loyal to those he considers friends.
Dennan often exhibits animalistic qualities, such as being able to perceive things normal Immortalis can't, especially in regards to his senses of hearing and sight. He seems at home in natural environments, especially forests, and is friend to a wide variety of animals. At his home reside several horses, a few bovines, wild boar, turtles, several forms of feathered fowl, a small family of deer, and a mated pair of wolves. His best friend is a bear, Fensten, who is his constant companion and a faithful ally.

Attributes:
STRENGTH (Damage)
STRENGTH (Athletics)
DEXTERITY (Dodge)
DEXTERITY (Stealth)
CONSTITUTION (Soak)
CONSTITUTION (Endurance)
WISDOM (Spiritual Magic):

Wall- Dennan slams his fist or his weapon into the ground causing a wall of rock to erupt.
WISDOM (Shapeshifting):
Dennan is likely the most talented Shapeshifter among the Ageless. He has the ability to take the forms of a myriad of different beasts, can speak to them in their native languages, and can easily approach them without being attacked. As Dennan seems more beast than man, he has a supernatural ability to calm even the most savage beast.
CHARISMA (Intimidation)
Fear- The target loses all actions for a turn.
Rout- Beings with insufficient willpower will flee.
CHARISMA (Influence)
As the son of the Archon and the General, Dennan is well known within Ageless society. He is well-liked by his people and feared by his enemies.

Legendary Attributes:
CONSTITUTION: Regeneration
WISDOM: Willpower
WISDOM: Heightened Senses
WISDOM: Combat Tactics

Battlecry- Dennan lets out a mighty roar, causing all targets within the vicinity to be hurled violently backwards.

Lai
« Reply #19 on: July 26, 2013, 07:26:19 PM »
Lai

Notable Friendships:
Aras- He once held Aras as a prisoner of the Forsaken, but came to respect and even care for him as a true friend.

Lai is a Carnis. A Carnis is a being created by the Adversary himself. They are masters of deception and prey upon a sense of sympathy in its victims. Often, animals can see through the disguise of a Carnis, which is why Dennan could perceive it while the others could not. As spirits of sort, Carnis do not have their own physical bodies. They can create convincing illusions, even make it so you can see, hear, smell or feel them, but they are most powerful when they have a host body. A Carnis can use any living creature for a host, but they generally avoid Immortalis due to many of them having strong Willpower. However, a young Immortalis would make a fitting host. They can also possess humans and animals.

Lai is a master of deception. However, he has also been shown to be able to heal his host or give it exceptional speed or dexterity. As a spirit, Lai is incapable of dying. When a host body gets destroyed, he just moves on to a new one. He can change bodies at will, as long as the host has no means to expel him.
