Faidth (Epic Battle)
« on: June 24, 2010, 10:43:37 AM »
Faidth Fyra

Age: 22
Height: 5’10’’
Weight: 180 lbs.
Hair: blood red
Skin:  tan
Build: slim, athletic

Personal Background

When Faidth was a child, she was sent to live with her mentor, Marius, a veteran warrior who was blinded in battle, yet continued to teach others the art of combat. Faidth adored Marius, as was befit, for the man was truly her father, a fact that Faidth is still ignorant of.
Faidth’s family history is quite convoluted. Her maternal grandmother, Mirala, was a warp mage who escaped to the Olympus System before her own planet, Inferia, was destroyed. There, she found herself captured by the forces of a Trobiak king. The king, Tersus IV, fell in love with her, and in time, Mirala bore a daughter.
However, during the wars with Fyra, their vessel was attacked. Tersus and Mirala (whose powers had depleted considerably due to lack of use) in an act of desperation, sent their grown daughter, Lydonia, in an escape pod, which unfortunately, crash-landed on Fyra. She had no way to contact her father’s fleet, and both of her parents were presumed dead, leaving her heir to the throne.
Lydonia was an intellectual, bookish sort, and had spent a great deal of time studying the lore and culture of her Fyran enemies. She began to pose as a native of Fyrellia, and was so convincing in her display, that she soon found herself pursued by a high-ranking Fyrellian military officer, who would later become the dreaded General Feerce Fyra, commander of all the Fyrellian military.
Despite the deep love that Feerce felt for his new wife, she could only feign to return his affections. He was cunning and committed to his cause, which just happened to be the total obliteration of her people. Despite her own strength, she feared him.
All of these factors were responsible for driving her into the arms of Marius Orignas, a promising, young Fyrellian warrior, who despite his prowess in battle, had a certain gentle nature that Lydonia found appealing. The two began an affair, and this union resulted in the conception of Faidth. Marius begged Lydonia to run away with him, but the woman knew that Feerce would hunt them to the ends of the earth.  Any hope of escape Lydonia may have clung to was obliterated when she saw the way Feerce doted upon “his” newborn daughter. There was no mistaking that he loved the child, and in the several months that followed, Feerce proved himself to be a worthy father and husband.
However, this happiness was to be short-lived. Feerce received intel that several years before, a Trobiak princess had likely managed to escape onto the planet and was likely living amongst the Fyrellians. Feerce looked upon the photograph of the woman and knew in his heart that it was his beloved wife, Lydonia. He returned home immediately, and confronted her with the knowledge that she was “the whore queen of the Trobiak scum.” Feerce revealed that he knew of her affair with Marius and had guessed for some time that the child was not his own, but continued to love her anyway.
Lydonia saw the look in his eye, and knew that the situation would likely end in her demise. She begged Feerce to see that Faidth was cared for, but Feerce refused to ensure the baby’s protection. He strangled his wife then crossed to the cradle, where the infant looked up at him with a gleeful smile upon her face, unaware that he mother was dead in the next room.
Feerce picked up the baby in his arms, and mentally prepared himself to snap the child’s neck, but as the infant reached her tiny fingers up to touch his face, he could not bring himself to feel hatred for the child. He sent her off to Marius for protection, but continued to check in on her progress. Feerce never told Marius that he was aware of his affair with Lydonia, so Marius never acknowledged Faidth as his own, and she remained the daughter of General Feerce Fyra.
As Faidth grew, Marius trained her in all manner of combat and intellect. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed the visits from the Priests of Orla who had taken a special interest in her development. Marius helped her to hone her skills in battle, showed her how to carve and paint small, wooden figurines, and how to discern the time of the day and her approximate location from the position of the dual suns in Fyra’s sky.
When Faidth was 21, still very young by Fyrellian standards, she began to exhibit some very odd qualities. For example, on one occasion, she was on her way to the market for Marius, and as she reached the door of the first store, she was inexplicably transported to the other side of the country. Oddly enough, it was fortuitous she was transported at that time, as the store exploded several moments later due to a “gas leak.” She contacted Marius who had to come and collect her. Despite her unusual explanation, he never questioned the truth of her statements.
On another occasion, Faidth was walking to the Church of Corvinus, home of the Priests of Orla, when she was nearly run over by a drunken military officer on a dune bike. As she moved to dodge out of the way, she was teleported into the vestibule of the church.
Despite the strange nature of these teleportation episodes, Marius never expounded upon how or why they were happening. Whether or not he knew their reason, when Faidth would broach the subject, he would merely lean back in his chair, chewing absentmindedly on a piece of sweetgrass, and stare at the floor in silence.
Shortly before Faidth’s 22nd birthday, news reached Marius that Frix, the doorport to the far west, had been invaded by immense, orcish creatures called Oslow. They were working their way towards Fyrellia and devastating all in their path. It was not long before they reached Orla where Marius and Faidth lived. As the Oslow pillaged and plundered, Marius and Faidth fought to aid others to safety. They eventually fell back to Marius’s home and were set upon by the Oslow.
As Marius was surrounded, he begged Faidth to flee, but the young woman refused to leave her master’s side. With tears in his eyes, Marius bid her farewell, and Faidth was “pulled,” this time, to another universe, where she met the companions.  Though she remains with these newfound friends, her sole desire is to return home.

Powers:

Atom Transfiguration

All matter is composed of atoms, and as such, Faidth has the ability to perceive the components of both organic and inorganic items, beings, and manifestations. Her Atom Transfiguration ability gives her the ability to isolate individual components and form them into something new, and more appropriate for her uses.
For example, if Faidth walked upon a paved road, she would be able to disseminate the materials in the asphalt. She could isolate the tar to incapacitate her enemies, use the catalyst or binding agents to inflict chemical burns, gather sand for the use of other party members (*ahem, Kith, ahem*) or use her command of fire to ignite the oil or kerosene that act as releasing agents.
Though Faidth can transfigure atoms, SHE CANNOT CREATE NEW MATERIALS. She is not able to manufacture something that is not already there.

Stun

Unbeknownst to Faidth, her mother was a high-ranking noble in Trobiak society. The Trobiaks are a race of humanoids, native to the Olympus System, who have the ability to channel the inherent static electricity in their bodies to create powerful shorts. By using her stun ability, she can incapacitate an organic creature, or short-circuit those with technological components.

Fire

Faidth currently has sporadic command of fire-based elemental abilities. The Fyrellians are descendants of an Elemental race, but upon their arrival on Fyra several hundred years ago, their physiology began to change. Over time, their abilities over heat and flame became dormant, and there have been very few since who have managed to circumvent the seeming absence of these abilities.

Teleportation

Recently, Faidth developed the ability to teleport. Unfortunately, this is never done by on her own volition. Rather, she describes it as being “pulled.” Who, or what, is causing her to exhibit this ability is still a mystery. These incidents seem to occur most often when she is confronted by high-stress situations or extremely perilous conditions, however, she has also been known to disappear at inopportune times. Though Faidth is unaware of it as yet, her maternal grandmother was a warp mage, which may contribute to this ability.

Perception

Faidth can perceive the nature of people or things, especially in regards to whether that object or being is affiliated with darkness or evil.

Immunity to Psychic Abilities

Faidth is mentally protected by her guardian, Marius. Hence, any attempt to read her mind or exact mental influence is met with the image of a grey haired, bearded man with no eyes, wearing plain looking brown robes and a disapproving scowl on his face.

Melee (Skeerya)

The use of the Skeerya is a lost art on Fyra. During the wars with the Myaja on Bora, the majority of Fyrellian warriors used this bladed melee weapon with devastating accuracy. The Skeerya can be used as one weapon or two. (Used as one weapon, it closely resembles a Klingon Bat’leth from the Star Trek universe.) It has two handles in the middle, and six small blades at each end. It can also be used as two weapons. The Skeerya can be pulled apart in the middle and used in two hands, thus increasing the speed of the attacks and the ability to move more freely.
