Title: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Cameron on July 23, 2011, 09:43:55 PM
As mentioned in the other SWTOR thread, we will have a guild presence in the game when it releases. What I failed to mention is that the guild has already been created.

The Officio Administorum guild is active and ready to join! Visit http://www.swtor.com/guilds/129263/officio-administorum (http://www.swtor.com/guilds/129263/officio-administorum) to sign up. Please keep in mind that this guild is only currently accepting ACTIVE Administorum members into our ranks. So please don't go inviting all your friends. We will make a case-by-case exception for husbands/wives/very close family, so contact me or post in this thread if that's the case.

Our staff in game will mirror our staff here. I am running the guild, and Fei, Jharm, and Faidth (Our mighty Inquisitors) will be the officers. So please do not ask to be an officer.

Hope to see a good turn out for this great game! Feel free to use this thread or make new threads in the Games board to discuss this. If enough interest is generated, we may create a new sub-board just for the guild.

As of right now, our guild is a Republic guild. We may create an Empire faction at a later date if there is enough interest.

Just a quick request. If you are signing up for the guild and you're using a different name then you use on the forums, please post your character's name here so that I know who you are.

(Now with TEN TIMES THE BEES <_<)

Edit: One other thing to mention. We already have the required 4 pre-orders to make sure our guild is transferred in game, so you're not actually required to pre-order to join the guild. However, if you still have not purchased the game after it has been out for a month, you will be removed from the guild.

Title: SWTOR links
Post by: Veldanya Venalla on July 24, 2011, 04:55:54 PM
Well here are 3 links with some interesting SWTOR on em:

http://www.swtorsmuggler.net/ (http://www.swtorsmuggler.net/)

http://swtor.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic_Wiki (http://swtor.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic_Wiki)

http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/874061-SWTOR-information-gathered-thus-far-from-various-sources (http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/874061-SWTOR-information-gathered-thus-far-from-various-sources)

some interesting tidbits i've found:

swiming will NOT be included with release version (dev's stated that to make swimming work properly and not be exploitable and such it would take a large amount of time, time better spent on more important aspects of the game) so you will be able to go through shallow water but as you get into deeper and deeper water you will get warned and then you will drown (aka it will be a soft planetary border).

guild spaceships ARE an aspect that Bioware is really interested in but at this point they are not sure whether it will be in release or patch down the road.

There will be 17 total planets (not including space stations and such)

Third Party addons will not be available for ship but it is something they plan on looking into after release

There will be no "breaking the 4th wall" or non-contexual holidays (xmas, thanksgiving, etc) all holidays will be Star Wars holidays (so if its a holiday in the SW universe it could be in the game)

Apparently armor will be handled similar to say ME2 (so you wont be running around looking like you just jumped out of a garbage can or came from clown school)

Would totally be awesome to get a guild ship.  And the rumor is that it won't just a be a normal ship, but a capital ship.

Im going to play an Empire and a Republic character(if it's possible).   As long as my work schedule doesn't change I'll be on almost every weekend.

This game has a big potential to destroy free time.

I chose UNDECIDED for my class because they haven't come out with the Jedi Consular trailer or progression videos yet.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Veldanya Venalla on July 25, 2011, 12:04:32 AM
If you mean can you have both on the same server....yes you can, it was confirmed at ComicCon (possibly at other places too *shrug*) that even on PVP servers players will be allowed to have characters of both factions...but you will NOT be able to chat with friends if you are on opposing factions or send any cash or items to characters of the opposing faction.

Also I know how you feel on the lack of video footage for your possible class :)  I really want them to release Smuggler progression vid...still can't decide if ill be going for the range dps (gunslinger) or rogue type setup/healer (scoundrel)
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Tyvaris on July 25, 2011, 12:20:10 AM
Well at least the Smuggler has a trailer, even without a progression video it still has a small look at what it's like to play as a smuggler.

The Consular doesn't have anything yet.

Post by: Veldanya Venalla on July 25, 2011, 01:54:54 AM
In the MMO-champion link I posted, there is some footage you can watch of some people doing the one flashpoint and one of them is from the Jedi Consular point of view...not the best but *shrug* better then nothing.  From what ive seen and such it seems like the Consular is the "squishy mage" class for SWTOR

We'll be looking at the possibility of having an alternate "Dark Side" guild with the same name once the game starts, since you can apparently do that. It will probably be filled with alts of those of us who want to try out Empire characters. I know I was looking at the Bounty Hunter for a while.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild

yeah the bounty hunter or the agent look pretty awesome (amusingly enough thats pretty much the empire opposites for trooper and smuggler lol)

I'll make sure to sign up whenever I manage to get the game. Hope you guys have an Empire faction guild by then. I want to be eeeevil sith.

I'm signed up for the guild! Haven't preordered but this game sounds awesome. Plus starting out with you all will be a nice change from going solo all the time. Jedi consular looks cool. One advanced path is listed as tank which I think will be fun. Plus the companions and crew mechanic looks really interesting.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Fei on July 25, 2011, 07:50:06 PM
there are 3 republic classes that primarily interest me.  The Jedi Knight Sentinel, the Jedi Consular Shadow and the Smuggler Gunslinger. Yes, all 3 of them are DPS roles :p

We got my upfront DPS (Sentinel, dual wields, very Fei/Charin like), my Assassin (Shadow, Double-bladed lightsaber melee DPS, Adrykk/Nimsul) and my ranged DPS (Gunslinger, Dual Pistol, Aric Fitzgerald)

Bang.

Even though we'll be on a PVE server, I'll be heavy handed in the PVP aspect of the game.

You should let me know how it is once you play it.  For the time being though, I'm way too addicted to Rift. :P
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Cameron on July 25, 2011, 11:33:24 PM
I'm definitely going with Trooper Vangaurd. I'll possibly consider running a Smuggler Gunslinger as an alt. If we do start a Empire side guild, Bounty Hunter Mercenary will be my dark choice.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Veldanya Venalla on July 25, 2011, 11:52:19 PM
so got almost 2 full groups already for doing flashpoints...looks like we got the following

Tanks:  Faidth and Cameron, and maybe Kith
Healers:  Sepher and myself prolly
DPS:  Fei, Kith (dunno if you intend to tank or dps *shrug*) and Tyvaris

So all around not too bad imho.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Kitharsis on July 26, 2011, 09:48:50 AM
Jedi Consular seems like it could potentially be an off tank/DPS role.

Also it should be noted that I have alt-itis and will probably take a week or two to pick something I will stick with.

Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Faidth on July 26, 2011, 06:00:15 PM
If I run an alt. it will definitely be a Trooper Vanguard. My first character will probably be the Jedi Knight: Guardian, though.

Mission now is to buy a new PC.   Current 2.6 Gig Dual Core with crappy Geforce 8600 GT isn't going to cut it.  I want everything to be crisp and a Battlefield 3 gaming rig.

I like the game so far, but I'm really looking forward to what this game is going to be like in a couple years.  Possible Guild ships and hopefully a better space combat engine.   From here on out anythings possible.

As far as I can tell it's definately going to be a paid monthly subscription.   Probably $14.99 a month.  Buying the game supposedly comes with your default first month free.

Yeah,  bioware confirmed it would be sub based but hasnt re vealed exact price...$15 bucks is how nuch WoW is so i doubt it would be more thenthat and yeah any copy of SWTOR comes with 30a days free...so we will see how popular it is once that ends and ppl have to renew...ill prolly say screw it and set up billing when i install
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Tyvaris on July 27, 2011, 11:35:08 AM
Depending on if they have a discounted yearly subscription I may buy one years worth.   At $15 for a year it's $180.  If a yearly sub is discounted anywhere near $150 I might actually hop on that, if I have the money available.    We'll see when they officially announce pricing in September or so.   Thats when it's expected they also release the start date and the beta plays.

Looks like as it stands now, Level 10 is when you get to choose your advanced class.   After that you used your class Advanced Tree to further specialise your role.

Everything about this game looks awesome.   Sadly still months away.....  ARGH...

Indeed it does look awesome.  I want it now!

I also want $$ to pre-order and a new video card so... priorities I guess.

The system specs I could find don't seem too bulky, but I want it to look pretty and not run on medium/low like I've had to do for the few newer games I've played lately (Rift you bastard).

What card is everyone using?  Or planning on using?

What card is everyone using?  Or planning on using?

I'm going to have to make do with my current system, which is a GeForce 8800 GTX (Not bad) but only has 2GB of RAM (Bad.) RAM is oppressively expensive for this motherboard, so that's kinda a sticking point. But I can't upgrade anyway, cause my money has to go towards making sure Faidth has a system that can run the game. She only has a laptop right now.

My GeForce 9500 is probably better up to the task Cameron.

Although what I want to see an Administorum group get together on is Warhammer 40k: Space marine, which is coming early september.

But on the topic of TOR: Sith deadliness. I just love the evil characters.

POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!

Sorry Shadow but even though im sure most of us are planning on buying WH40K: Space Marine i know a few of us are anti-multiplayer...also just so you know...you CAN play an evil (aka dark side) republic character...or a good (aka light side) sith character.  Morality will be different from your faction.

Will the Old Republic be too big?

At a panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con SWTOR's lead designer, James Ohlen, revealed that they hope they will be able to keep the game going for decades and expand the game well beyond the 19 major worlds which it will launch with.

He revealed: "Well, I can say that we have 19 major worlds. Then we have an indeterminate number of minor worlds. And our goal, obviously this being an online game, that we're hoping is going to last for decades, we're going to be, obviously, adding more to the galaxy map as the game progresses. We want to add dozens of worlds. Hundreds of worlds eventually. In 2025, we'll hopefully have 500 worlds."

500 WORLDS??????   Holy Crap Batman....     Wow... they want there to be so much crap you can do you'll never be able to see it all.

Here's the article:   http://www.play.tm/news/33914/star-wars-the-old-republic-to-have-500-worlds-by-2025/

Wow.

I really hope travel isn't a huge time consuming thing.  With so many worlds I can see us staring through a cockpit for a while.

But then there's the hyperspace thing with the zooming stars, so I'm crossing my fingers.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Tyvaris on July 28, 2011, 11:40:00 AM
I'm pretty sure every starship has a Galaxy Map(Fast Travel) so you can travel between planets.  Sorta Mass Effect style.    You have to pretty much level through your homeworld and then you get access to a ship so you can travel.  I also think when you earn your ship you get crew companions.     I guess everything is speculation but from the ship trailers you can see everyone has a holo map on the bridge.

Everything I remember seeing in videos shows you pretty mugh go into Hyperspace and then show up all cinematically above the planet and then land. Finally starting on foot in the hanger.

Will be interesting to see how groups of 4 players can travel together on one ship or if you all have to fly individual ships to different planets.    Supposedly your ship is like your player housing, you can buy items for it and invite others on it to take a look and invite others onto it, etc.

I am going to have to set a timer up beside the pc so I don't stay up all night playing when it comes out.  Been wanting a Sci Fi game like this for a while.

They are saying that each CLASS will have over 200 hours of game content at launch.   Which would mean for me who would have an average of 2-3 hours a day, probably less would take 100+ days to complete.  With updates and new content always being added.   Crazy numbers.   Millions of people, 19 worlds, unknown number of servers, maps 7 to 8 times the size of WoW zones.   This definately is going to ruin my life next year...

Holidays are already hectic as it is.   I would of rather it been a post holiday release, but I can see them selling the boxed sets and collectors editions in stores in November as a Black Friday sale item.     It will DEFINATELY not come out in October.  Thats the release of EA's other big Game BF3 which is going up against Call of Duty MW3 of which both games are expected to sell 10-12 million copies each.     We'll see what they say in September which is still a couple months away.

I find competitive multiplayer to be annoying when the other players are asses. I do enjoy a nice round of competition where afterward the players end up saying things like "That was a good round, let's do it again." Or "Great job, it was fun." And so on. When people start screaming profanities because they got shot I get annoyed.

But yes, I know about the morality vs. faction part of ToR. I still like Sith better though. Just the inherent Ruthlessness and Violence that comes with the title of a Sith warrior is something that calls to me from a character point of view.

And the Universe of 500 full worlds? Wow, that's massive.

I smell something taking the MMO world by storm, and it's not WoW anymore.

If Bioware is smart, they'll avoid trying to go toe to toe with WoW. It doesn't matter how good the game is. They'll lose. I'd rather them focus on making a great game then focus on how they can beat WoW.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Shadow Chorus on July 29, 2011, 07:02:41 AM
That's what makes them beat WoW. They're not trying to. It's a bit of a paradox, really, but when you're just doing your best, rather than trying to outshine something else, you end up doing it anyhow, whether you're aware or not. It's a funny little thing, and something I've seen happen quite often, and been amused every time I have.

And then of course, when You're TRYING to compete with something else, it always either becomes long and drawn out or you just fail outright.

But off that topic: The classes seem epic. Sith Assassin is my particular favorite. On the republic I think the Jedi Guardian is my favorite. Mainline tank anyone?

Just an FYI to those that expressed interest in a Empire faction. Due to the way the pre-launch guild setup works, I cannot create more then one guild until launch. Once the game is up and running and the Republic guild is all squared away, I will see about getting an Empire guild up and running.

I did like that Finisher with a flying hunk of metal that saved the Smuggler. I can imagine that in a movie with hilarious witty dialogue.

Yep seems like they are incorporating the need to actually work together and whatnot into flashpoints pretty well.   wish they would release the smuggler progression video though...really wanna see how the scoundrel works with the stealth belt...will it be similiar to WoW rogue (aka brings up a new hotbar and also gives certain abilities only useable while stealthed....or simply an ability that will make it easier to move around near mobs.

The Dialogue system is nice.   Although it would suck if someone is a douche in your group and keeps choosing the negative answers or makes the dark side option everytime they get a chance.

I was wondering how the dialogue was going to work and that made it look really cool.

There was also a good Tatooine video where they show the Sith walkthrough of a flashpoint with just two people.   Was interesting too.

One thing that will suck is if we have 5 people online and can only have 4 in a group, :(

Also the coolest thing about this video is that it's what your characters will be doing at LEVEL 9...   Level 9... what are you doing in WoW or Lotro at level 9 killing Boars or Lynx's?    Awesome.

Watching this video(which is nothing but screenshots and concept art from media releases from 2008-2011)  makes me want to explore the world more than anything else.  I like just exploring areas and finding wierd stuff.   I remember finding wierd quests like that in LOTRO all the time.   Their is going to be some cool exploring quests and thinks called Datacrons that give you XP and encourage waunderlust.

I believe I read that even if the dark side choice is made in your group, but you chose the ligh side choice you get the light side points...you wont get penalized for other peoples choices...only your own.

That sounds like a good way to work it out. You shouldn't be penalized for one person's decision, and this makes it so that each party member can do their own thing without screwing the rest of the group.

all i gotta say is the class video makes the consular look pretty badass...now just for the progression video for smugglers and consular :D

Man, I'm torn between the Consular and the knight.

I don't like stealth classes and healing can be a bore so I'm leaning towards the knight. But it looks like there will be multiple trees for each subclass so dps will always be an option. I'll probably have one of both until I decide on a main.

Decisions...

The consular video definately sealed my immediate decision to play Consular.   Based off the advanced class trees it probably won't matter which class you pick until you choose your advanced class and then you can customize your character even further.

Knight looks awesome too.   I can only imagine that they might add more classes later on, 4 does seem sorta small although with the advanced portion it sorta turns it into 8 but anyway.

I'll start as a lowbie healer-esque consular until I can do the Shadow branch and then im going to try to make my character as DPS as possible and a heal as needed basis.    Companions will make this a lot more interesting too.

I agree that 4 does sound small when compared to most other MMO's (for ease of reference....WoW had 9 classes available at release) course as you mentioned Tyvaris that if you count that each class has 2 adv class choices that goes to 8...technically only 1 below WoW (and with just about every class able to dps/heal or dps/tank) SWTOR really isnt trailing behind and in fact pulls ahead in regards to class choice.  I also like that you get to choose your adv class at lvl 10 (here's to hoping that 1-10 is at least pretty fast whereas they slow down 10-50 a bit so as to allow you to really get into the action quick but not so fast that you hit lvl cap in a week (no...im not counting people who take 2 weeks off and eat/sleep/breathe the MMO...we all know someone will prolly hit lvl 50 in 1-2 weeks and then prolly bitch and complain that they are bored :-p)

I don't have the time to do something crazy like that.   Although I plan to game hard on weekends where I can stay up late.  Especially Saturday and Sunday nights.   I'll be on late.  Mostly Sunday and every other Monday nights.  Will be casual hour or so's during the week and no static times.   Definately can't commit to anything right now, but if anyone is on Sunday nights I'll probably be on.

Mike is thinking a tankie type.  Right now he's thinking Jedi Knight.

I'm thinking I might try a Trooper or a Smuggler.  Leaning more towards Trooper.

EA is currently hosting a live conference at Gamescom in Germany right now.   The whole conferernce should be available later today on youtube. Supposed to have some new info on SW:TOR and ME:3 and all the other EA games coming out this fall and next year.     Very minor possibility they release a release date for Old Republic as this is last major Gaming Con for the summer if I remember correctly.

One interesting announcement already:

“The BioWare Mythic team is exploring new gaming platforms with our longtime partners at Games Workshop. And today we’re pleased to announce Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes, a new PvP Play4Free game for the PC.”

Wrath of Heroes is coming this fall – and it is FREE! Watch the Gamescom trailer and sign up for the beta starting today at www.wrathofheroes.com

-------------------------------------------------------------

Probably no release date, just stating that Weekend Betas are starting soon.   And they are showing an 8 person demo Operation, live.   I can't watch it at work, but im reading the live blog.

Feh, I might as well pre-order.

I just wish there were system specs out that I could compare against so I could feel better about it.  I've bought games that my pc couldn't handle before and its the worst feeling.  After the install you are greeted with 5fps and the knowledge that it will cost exponentially more than the price of the game to actually play it...

Frustrating.

Yeah the specs look really manageable.  I have them covered but I want allllll the shinies I can get.  Probably going to spring for a better video card sometime soon.

The site was acting funny today when I was updating my account.  I was going to pre-order but that kinda scared me off for a bit.

Part of me wants to think that article is just one of those "Supplies limited!!  Get them while they last!!!" infomercial type things.  But then again there's a little voice in my head screaming about availability actually running out and me being screwed for a month or so.  Wheres my credit card...

On a more gameplay related note, are we going to be rolling on a PVE, PVE-RP, PVP, or PVP-RP server?  Those are the usual breakdowns I think so I'm assuming there will be something like it for SWTOR.  I prefer PVE or PVE-RP.  I'm not much for getting ganked while slaughtering my 10 gnoll pups as a level 5, so I usually stick to PVE servers.  What is everyones thoughts on this?

Yes ...that vote was quite quickly made overwhelminly in favor of pve :) also kith...the fact ive seen the limited release thing mentioned at a number of cons and confirmed by bigwigs makes me think its real...and honestly in a way it makes sense especially since SWTOR is pulling from the MMO fan and star wars fan pools.

Awesome.  I've rolled on PVP servers with friends before an while bearable its not my favorite.

The reason they are giving for limiting copies at release is a good one.  They don't want their servers to get overloaded so they're bottlenecking the amount of people playing.

If that means a smooth and stable release I'm all for it.

One thing im curious about is if anyone will mic up for this game.  I found it to be fun when playing lotro to use voice in game but since we'll be straining to hear quests and npc voices could be more of a hinderance than a good thing.   Hard to tell just yet.   I really look forward to Guild Operations, :-P hopefully we can all take part in some fun stuff.   Not going to dedicate my life to this game, but will put in around 5-10 hours a week if I have the chance, although that will fluctuate months after the release.   Also BF3 might wipe a lot of my game time out also, too busy blowing stuff up.

I'm giving the game a firm 6 month commitment before I consider how I continue.

eh....it was a bad move on their (gamestops) part but at the same time apparently the coupon was not something Gamestop was informed about beforehand so imho Square Enix is also partially to blame since they should have had the forsight to realize that there would be issues with putting a competitor's coupon into copies being sold at GS.  Also...are you having your's shipped to your house or to the store?  Cause if its getting shipped to your house it kinda skips this entire issue all together.
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild

In store pick up.

Although the problem with Gamestop is that it's a competitor to a service that GameStop doesn't even have live yet.   That's what's pathetic about the whole thing.  I think this might be my last GameStop purchase unless it's Xbox related.   Definately not buying PC games there anymore.   Most of the games im interested in are all EA games and considering how much they are starting to tick people off I wouldn't put it past GameStop to pull something like this with SW:TOR or BF3 if it came with something extra at the last minute.     I can see this ticking a lot of people off and maybe bring some legal action against GS.

http://kotaku.com/deus-ex-human-revolution/ (http://kotaku.com/deus-ex-human-revolution/)  Yes GS screwed up and its gonna hurt them...but its not entirely their fault.  Plus im sure after this whole outrage if GS attempts anything like this again there will be massive issues...if anything they will probably just pull the stock off the shelves and then work on doing a recall if something like this (competitors coupon in the box) occurs again.

yeah i think its safe to say im going with scoundrel smuggler (at least try my hand at healing) and vanguard trooper...every time i play my dk tank in WoW and think of quitting the game when SWTOR (as long as im able to afford it at release....) i realize i can't give up on tanking :D

Love how the smuggler gets so many....insulting attacks lol....kick to the nuts then punched in the face...not really sure if theres anything worse then that...except the one spot in the video where he sneaks up behind the guy and unloads a shotgun blaster round in his back >:)

well Fei technically was the one who got in, they recently (as in this previous weekend) took the beta offline to put in the next build (no idea when that will be) so maybe more people will get invited for next build.  I honestly hope everyone is still in, im totally pumped about an Administorum guild (hopefully it lasts longer then LOTRO's did lol).

So got a jedi guardian, trooper vanguard and smuggler gunslinfer on beta right now.  Cant decide between guard or van for my tank toon.  Gunslinger is cool but I miss my scoundrels stealth belt and the satisfying BOOM from his backshot attack (pulls out aa shotgun and unloads it into the targets back).  Also looks like the final stages of the pre-release guold creation is occuring and sounds like ours is all set to go

As a man who has yet to try it out or show interest in the game, how would you compare its features to other MMOs?  Solo play, end game, PvP, leveling and whatnot...?
Title: Re: Official Administorum Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild
Post by: Veldanya Venalla on November 11, 2011, 12:49:48 AM
ok ill put it simply....SWTOR plays kind of like a single-player game.  What i mean by this is that the story, conversations etc are all "geared" to your character and advancing a storyline.  There are still of course plenty of group options with group quests being referred to as Heroics 2+ (i.e. you should have at least one other person with you before attempting the quest, the mobs are higher difficulty then your average mob) as well as flashpoints (aka dungeons) and operations (aka raids).  Leveling has you go from 1-10 on a starting world (exact world depends on what class you choose) as the "original class (i.e. smuggler, trooper, jedi knight/consular for republic).  Once you hit lvl 10 and travel to the next area (for republic this would be Carrick Station) you will run into an NPC that will direct you to your class trainer where you will get to choose your advance class (smuggler can either be scoundrel (close combat dps/healer) or gunslinger (ranged dps/mid-range dps).  I can't really tell you anything about PvP (i am not a big fan of PvP in general).

Compared to other MMO's well, the only other one I have played extensively is WoW.  In WoW you feel like a nobody when you start out, but SWTOR makes you feel like a badass right from the start.  I am looking at actually cancelling my WoW subscription and going with SWTOR, which anyone who knows me can tell you says something for SWTOR cause ive been an avid WoW fan since its release 7 years ago...

well its official....Bioware has begun sending out notifications inviting people to the upcoming beta test weekend!  If you signed up for testing before 11/11/11 I believe you are guaranteed to get invited.  Big thing to note though is a very simple but easily missed (aka lots of people will bitch about it) is that this weekend is pretty much a server stress test...bioware is literally inviting pretty much everyone they can so swarms of people can slam the servers as hard as possible so that hopefully come 12/20 they will have everything ironed out and issues will be minimal.

What this means is honestly...do not expect to get any real quality game time in between probable server issues and just a crap ton of new characters everywhere.  With that being said I hope to see at least some of you on, I myself will more then likely not be on until 7pm EST saturday due to work.  When/if you get in try to make a republic character on Cosmic Turbine, thats the server I have been utilizing to test on via friends "regular beta" account.  If it gets real nasty we can always try to swap over to a less busy (even though such a thing wont prolly exist) server and get some Administorum grouping going on.

Those of you participating in this beta weekend need to do two things ASAP.

1: As Jharm said, CHECK YOUR EMAIL. As soon as you get the email with the invite, click the respond now link immediately. They're letting us in based on when we responded, so do it ASAP for earlier access.

2: Go to the website and DOWNLOAD THE CLIENT. Do it NOW before the weekend starts and the servers get jammed. The client is massive and takes a very long time to update, so get a jump on it now so you aren't stuck waiting for it when the beta kicks off.

Sorry I haven't been active much in here. I'm the Guild Leader but I've kinda been leaving it to Jharm to keep everyone up to date. Still really psyched about playing with all of you!

When he says massive he isnt joking....20 gigs...thats about how much space the game currently takes (interesting point...WoW is a lil under 20gigs total after 3 expansions...)

Eh no problems Clutch...its a lil easier for me as well what with me having access to the "regular" beta and thus seeing the messages on the launcher and such.  I was thinking though, for the weekend test we might want to go with Empire characters so then people dont have to worry about spoiling the class storyline for the class they are planning on playing at release (the class playstyles and such are mirrored so if you want to be a consular you would go with inquisitor, trooper would be bounty hunter, jedi knight=sith warrior, and smuggler=agent).  The only difference I have seen between the respective mirrors is that trooper works off ammo (starts at full and drops down to empty as you use abilities) while BH uses heat (starts at 0 and builds) so slightly different there but everyone else is the same.

Just a heads up to any of you who are still on the fence about joining the guild. The Pre-Launch Guild Program ends on December 2nd. You have until then to register for the guild. If you haven't registered by then, you won't be able to join the guild until after the game launches on the 20th. This may affect your ability to join the guild during the early access period, so keep that in mind if you've already pre-ordered.

Ugh, at least I can play me some Skyrim in the meantime.

How is everyone's beta?

absolutely awesome.  On a side note...I HIGHLY SUGGEST that everyone makes sure they log into their account on swtor.com and make sure they have changed their password and put in security questions.  If you dont do this before launch you could face delays on trying to log in because they are pretty tough in regards to account security and to log into the launcher on a "new" computer you have to answer one of your security questions and im sure at launch swtor.com will probably be slow as hell.

Glad to see everyone is in and having fun! I got it downloaded overnight and had the day to play it.

The Jedi Knight class just wasn't doing it for me. The trooper is lots of fun though!

I made a bounty hunter that I like the most actually. I know it's just the imperial trooper and all but I really like the character model and the dialogue is just fun.

Nothing funnier than the fat character model using his jet pack to do a rocket punch haha.

Interesting bit of news I found off SWTOR FB page...ill copy/paste it here:

Stephen Reid confirmed via Twitter that the Star Wars: The Old Republic testers from the Thanksgiving Beta Weekend will be able to be patch their game client for Early Game Access and Release. As such, players should keep their game installation in tact on their computers. For players who tested the game prior to November 25th, however, Mr. Reid recommends a clean installation of the game client.

Read on for the direct quotes from Stephen Reid.

Stephen Reid
FAQ: if you played this weekend you do NOT need to uninstall the #SWTOR client. We are planning to patch it to Early Game Access / Live.

Stephen Reid
If you played before this weekend we will recommend a reinstall just to clean up, but otherwise no.

Title: My "reviews" for SWTOR classes I have played
Post by: Veldanya Venalla on November 29, 2011, 10:08:45 PM
So got to thinking tonight nad decided im gonna try to put up some info on the adv classes i have experienced so far.  I will not be posting anything in regards to class quests or any of that so do not worry about spoilers.  I will probably be using some comparisons to WoW simply to help with descriptions.

Jedi Knight -> Jedi Guardian (also Sith Warrior -> Sith Juggernaut):
Ok, so I have managed to get a Jedi Guardian (advanced class for Jedi Knight, can do dps or tank roles) to lvl 18 so far.  The Jedi Guardian uses 1 "standard" lightsaber as their weapon.  Their resource system works something similar in a way to a WoW rogue's combo point system.  What I mean by this is that you have a "free" (doesnt cost any resource to use) attack that when you use it it generates 2 resource (focus for Jedi, rage for Sith).  You can build up to like 15 resource and afte exiting combat it will slowly fade away.  Your abilities cost anywhere from 1 to 4 (dont think i saw any costing more then 4) resource to use.  At lvl 14 you get your official tanking abilities (a lightsaber form that increases threat gen, reduces damage taken, and increases shield chance).   The Guardian also utilizes Heavy Armor as well. Between the 4 tank characters (though sith juggernaut plays just like guardian so yeah) i have tested so far (guardian, trooper vanguard, BH powertech) the guardian allows for the more button spam then the others.

Trooper -> Vanguard
I only got a Vanguard to lvl 12 before a bug occured after a new build release that prevented me from being able to log into him and thus I deleted him.  The biggest differences between the Vanguard and the Guardian are that a) the vangaurd uses blaster rifles b) the Vanguard allows for range tanking whereas the Guardian is all melee and c) the Vanguard utilizes Ammo as their resource.  A vanguard (well trooper in general really) starts at full ammo (i think something around 15ish) and each attack (except for their "free" one they start out with) costs  1-4 ammo.  Ammo slowly refills depending on how much ammo you currently have (this means if you are 3/4 full it recharges faster then if you completely empty out your resource bar, so you need to make sure to use your free attack to keep ammo from getting too low).  The Vanguard works off using grenades, and plasma/ion attacks to damage enemies.  They also receive their tanking stuff (special ammo loadout called Ion Cell) at lvl 14.

Bounty Hunter -> Powertech
Ok technically the Powertech and Vanguard mirror each other but there is one slight "difference" they have that made me decide to split them up.  While the trooper/Vanguard starts at full Ammo, the BH/Powertech starts at 0 heat.  As you utilize a BH's attacks they generate X amount of heat and once you get too much you can't use any of your abilities (cept for your free attack).  A thing to note is that both the BH and trooper get a special ability to quickly generate (or remove for BH's) some resource quickly but it has a 2 minute CD.  Other then the slight difference (at least as i see it) in resource the BH and vanguard play the same.

Smuggler -> Scoundrel (dps/heals)
So, as of this post I have now created 5-6 smugglers during testing, 3 have been scoundrels, that tells you how much i enjoy the class lol.  The Scoundrel is a close-midrange fighter that utilizes a stealth belt to help him/her get into close quarters easier and allowing them to perform special attacks utilizing their scattergun (aka shotgun).  The Smuggler uses Energy as a resource (works just like Energy for rogues in WoW except the less energy you have the slower it regens).  Early on the Scoundrel gets an ability called Pugnacity which when used consumes a stack of Upper Hand (achieved by using Blaster Whip or killing an enemy) to allow for faster energy regen, but Upper Hand itself provide a damage/healing boost.  This creates a fun (to me at least) point where you try to maintain at least one stack of Upper Hand for the dmg boost and utilize Pugnacity and your free attack to keep your energy regen high.
Out of all the characters I have made the Scoundrel by far has some of worst (from the viewpoint of their enemy) attacks in the game :).  First the Smuggler in general gets Dirty Kick which literally has your character kick the target in the junk...accompanied by a very satisfying and loud *crunch* sound effect causing the target to also double over in pain for a few seconds.  The Scoundrel then gets Back Shot which literally has your character pull out their scattergun and fire it into the back of the enemy...also accompanied by a very loud and satisfying BOOM (even more satisfying when it follows a dirty kick and you defeat the enemy and they go spinning through the air).
I didnt really test out the healing aspect of the Scoundrel too much.  My first scoundrel I went healer and it wasnt bad but I have never really healed in any MMO so it was quite challenging for me.  The rest of my scoundrels I went the DPS route and would toss out heals when people needed em.

Smuggler -> Gunslinger (Pure dps)
So out of all the classes I have played so far the Gunslinger is the only pure dps class I played.  Of course this means all 3 skill trees available to the Gunslinger focus on DPS, but Bioware made all 3 different. One skill tree focuses on their blaster pistols (Gunslingers get Dual Wield right at lvl 10) for long range fighting from cover (most of their attacks require cover) , the 2nd tree is more midrange focusing on use of grenades and other explosives, which the final tree (which is also available to Scoundrels I should mention) which focuses on Damage over Time attacks.  My Gunslinger went the long-range route but I didnt get him very high lvl (i think like lvl 13) before he also got hit by the unplayable bug and I had to delete him.  In the time I played him though I found him fun, but I prefered the close range combat that the Scoundrel provides.

So thats all the classes I have played and at least a lil bit of info on them.  I did make a Consular and Inquisitor characters but didnt get very far with either...didnt even hit advanced class level, so don't feel like I can really give much info on them at all.

So I've been reading about the pre-order and early access program.

Turns out you need to redeem your pre-order code on the website in order to be eligible for the early access program.

It is a staggered release with this program, and access date is determined by when you redeemed your code on the website.

Oh a whim I decided to check out my pre-order status and when I did I realized someting:

I never redeemed the code.  I pre-ordered back in late August.  And from then until now I sat on the pre-order code.

I'm a little salty about the whole deal.

In all fairness Kith...that information has been available pretty much since they opened up pre-orders =/ and if you pre-ordered through Gamestop (no idea how the other companies are doing it) the email containing your pre-order code even specifically mentioned early access being tied to redeeming the code.  Regardless though,  you might get in early a day or two maybe...Bioware hasnt stated exactly how they are staggering the early access days, heck they could easily do it that as long as you redeem your code before early access starts you get the final early access day guaranteed *shrug*.

Also...both Cameron and myself have received emails informing us we are part of the final beta test this weekend so if you were in last weekend check your email...you will possibly be in this one too.

The thing is, I ordered it directly from Origin.  And I was signed in when I purchased it.  Something like applying the code to your account automatically should be simple but noooooo.

Haha, but yeah, its my own fault for not reading things.

I'm in the beta this weekend too.  Probably gonna bang out a Jedi Consular to see if I like it.  Are we going to be on the same server as last weekend?  I should be around Saturday to play during the day some.

I've been more then a little miffed by some things EA has done during this launch process.

I think we're on the same server. Whether they wiped characters or not will determine whether I play Republic or Empire this time around.

Are we all logging into Cosmic Turbine this time?  I jumped on that server last time but was all over the place so I didn't put up character names.  Maybe we can do a flashpoint if everyone is on sometime.

I found the following text had been edited into my post by Jharm. I can only assume that he meant to post it himself, but apparently missed the New post button. I've taken the liberty of placing it in a seperate post where it belongs.

Quote from: Jharm
Hmm....let me guess....security questions?

Anyways...loaded up the launcher and downloaded an update.  Been reading through the patch notes and a few changes caught my eye that I am quite pleased about:

-Reverse engineering mode no longer toggles off after reverse engineering an item (there ya go Cameron...less chance of RE'ing your armor eh? hehe)
-Mail sent to another player will now have a 30 minute delay (Im honestly not too certain what it was before cause I never really used the mail but Im assuming was prolly an hour)
-Moving to a new planet instance will no longer trigger the players Quick Travel cooldown (This is a freaking amazing and much required change, especially when a group of friends log on and get split into seperate instances and are trying to get into the same one)
-Using the /stuck command will no longer kill the player unless a safe location cannot be determined.  Players can now only use /stuck every 120 seconds. (I know for some people *cough* Fei *cough* this is an amazing change as well....the bum had to kill himself 3 times in a row cause he kept getting stuck on stuff cause he would keep bouncing all over the place)

To answer your question, Jharm, the security question thing is only part of my gripe. Being forced to change our passwords is another, and my biggest gripe is the method they chose to make us do that. Basically forcing us to go through the "Forgot your password" routine before they'd even let us log in, only to allow me to use the exact same password I had before? Waste of time. To be fair, I don't think any of this is Bioware's fault. I've dealt with dickery like this from EA in the past.

Are we all logging into Cosmic Turbine this time?  I jumped on that server last time but was all over the place so I didn't put up character names.  Maybe we can do a flashpoint if everyone is on sometime.

Yes, Cosmic Turbine is the server. And the good news is that it looks like they didn't wipe any characters. My Republic character is named Aileron, and he's currently stationed on Corucsant. I'm not sure when or if I'll be on tonight, however. I'll post in this thread again when I'm getting ready to login.

I was on late Friday night and Saturday during the day.  But Sunday I didn't have much time.

I actually spent what little time I had Sunday to make sure I could recreate my characters in the character creator.  Took longer than I thought, and the queue didn't help much either!

I've decided on two classes:

Republic Jedi Consular - Sage (Focusing Balance, but could probably respec Heals if needed).
Imperial Bounty Hunter - Tank/DPS tree.

I like the Consular mechanics better than the Knight.  Building up Force points and spending them wasn't something I enjoyed.  The replenishing energy system of the Consular was less of a hassle.  Plus I just get the feeling that this game favors ranged combat.

Did you know you can't drop armor pieces in the middle of your companions character screen?  Well you can, but I mistook the destroy dialog for the bind on equip dialog and trashed my Lizardman's new armor when I got to Courosant.  Whoops!  Hehe.

Also, I'm not ashamed to say that both of my characters use body type 4.  Curvy Twi'Lek and Hefty Rattataki.  Fun times.

yep im looking at the following: (will prolly be starting w/ Scoundrel unless it becomes apparent guild needs another tank then will prolly swap over to guardian, really enjoy both so *shrug* whatever hehe)
Smuggler Scoundrel - DPS/offheals
Jedi Guardian - Tank
then eventually:
Trooper Commando - DPS/offheals prolly
BH Merc or Powertech....not really sure which, beta'd the powertech and enjoyed him a lot but might give Merc a try
Imperial Agent Operative - dps/offheals
Sith Juggernaut - Tank

Ok, so an email went out from Bioware to testers informing them that testing has ended and to prepare for release to fully uninstall their client (apparently it was sent out before the announcement was made NOT to uninstall if you played either of the previous two weekends). The FB/forum announcement is correct, ignore the email:

IF YOU PLAYED THE BETA AFTER NOVEMBER 25TH DO NOT UNINSTALL THE GAME!

If you do you will pretty much be forcing yourself to have to redownload all 20+ gigs needlessly once you get told when you are getting early acces.  I know some of you may not even be getting the game on day 1 but still no need to completely reinstall the game, this way you can simply input your CD key and away you go.  I do suggest though that you guys try to load up the launcher every few days to get any patches they may put out.

Ya know, if they made that body choice a lil shorter I would totally use it cause they almost look dwarfish but right now they are too tall for it to look like I would want it to.

Ok everyone if you have Pre-ordered SWTOR you are now able to download the client and install the game.  You must have a pre-order code redeemed on swtor.com to be able to do this though.

Also they are releasing music from SWTOR via FB and Youtube (they have stated this music is NOT part of the soundtrack thats in the CE) you can find the full playlist of the released music (so far) here:

For anyone familiar with wowhead (one of the best info search engine type sites for WoW) it would appear there is now a SWTOR equivilant with working talent calculators for classes.  To get to the calculators go through the Tools menu, dont use the button right on the main page, for me at least it would lead to a blank screen.

Ok, gonna explain exactly how the guild thing works right now for anyone who was a member of the guild before it was deployed.

1) Enter into SWTOR and you will be brought to the server selection screen
2) Shii-cho (the server our guild was placed on) will have a gold flag next to it.
3) ANY republic characters you make on Shii-cho will get an automatic invite into the guild
3a) NOTE THOUGH:  Once you accept the auto-invite with a character NO MORE CHARACTERS WILL GET AUTO-INVITED  If you accidentally tell the game to stop asking you, you can go into the Options menu and deselect the "auto-ignore automatic guild invites" option.
4)  Any other characters you make after the first one that you utilize the auto-invite with, will naturally be welcome in the guild and make sure to contact any of the leadership to get a guild invite :)

Wow, the majority of the servers are listed as full already:  http://www.swtor.com/server-status

I hoping I'm in by the weekend.  I wonder if they are using lower population caps to spread people out.

Looks like they've gotten to about July 28th or so for Early Access today.  Yet a large amount of pre-orders were in July so seemingly they will have larger date ranges in later waves.

Blah, I want to Jedi already!

Yes, Stephen Reid mentioned in his forum post that after today they intend to increase the pre-order date coverage.  My guess is if you pre-ordered in august you have a pretty good chance for tomorrow and maybe even early september (and when i say pre-order i mean when you redeemed the code)

For those of you who use Ventrilo, we now have an official server for The Administorum. The server address is Nerdramblingz.com. Even if you haven't gotten access to SWTOR yet, join us anyway! Great place to talk about the game.

Also think it might be a good idea for people to post the username they appear as when using Ventrilo.  Right now got a Mysterious Hooded Man in Vent and I have no idea who it is and they are not responding :-p

so got almost everyone in the guild right now, only people we are missing are Sepher, Tamrissa and her hubby (as far as people specifically showing interest in being in the guild and have pre-ordered etc etc.  Hope to see the rest of you in game soon :)

Mysterious Hooded Man is Shadow Chorus.
I knew it!  Shadow Chorus and his ominous-ness... :P

EDIT: Oh yeah, while I'm here, is there any mention of free trials?

No free trials yet. Demand is too high and the servers are going to be crowded enough on launch day without having a bunch of freebies running around too. However, you do get your first 30 days free if you by the game, so there's that.

Ehhh yeahhh I'll wait around for a few months then.  I'm all about buying good games, but not well-hyped ones without even getting to sniff at it a bit.

I got in yesterday.  My characters are:

Pri'lada; Jedi Consular
Grobb; Bounty Hunter - PowerTech

I have to admit I'm guilty of playing the BH more than the Consular yesterday.  I already played through the Consular starter planet and I was eager to advance the BH story first.

I'll jump on vent once I get it installed so I can hear all of your wonderful voices.  I usually turn chat off ingame anyway cause it gets in the way.

I'll probably be playing Mondays and Wednesdays, and hopefully some during the day/late at night on weekends.

Yay!

I am normally on Vent and in game afternoons after 5pm eastern, except for Wednesdays and Thursdays, when you can find me on most of the day. There will more then likely be times when I am on Vent but not in game, as I usually try to get other things done or play other games when no one else is in SWTOR. :-P

so decided to slam through some dailies today including (wait for it......any minute now........) the pvp daily!  Yep, I actually went and did some warzone action today.  I must say it wasnt too bad, did 2-3 matches in Aldeeran Civil War (domination style mode) once in Void Sphere (Assault...might be wrong on the exact name of the map) and once in Huttball (Capture the Bag).  Only issue I seemed to have was at times it seemed like i was competing with some nasty rubberband type action cause I would try to attack people but it was kinda hard to target them.  After ~an hour or so of doing PvP I was already at almost 200 warzone commendations and was able to get myself a pretty nice implant.

got my commando to 16 and played around a bit with combat medic...gotta say healing as a commando is pretty freaking awesome (playing as a commando in general is pretty freakin awesome...i can't believe i didnt playtest this AC in the beta lol).  The Combat Support Cell they get at 14 really allows them to quickly switch between DPS and healer during combat (of course spec'ing as healer will allow for better healing but looks like they can dps pretty well as a healer).  I swear this game is making it hard as hell to focus on only one character lol....now ive got my smuggler and commando to bounce between (Jharm's kinda fallen by the wayside for now) and amusingly enough both class are pretty awesome as dps and heals :D

ok and here's a good link to see a) what companions your class will get (aka SPOILERS ARE RAMPANT ON THE SITE) and especially...what type of gifts they like the most.

here's Torhead's companion list (gotta say Torhead keeps getting better and better as they get more info uploaded into it)

Both my Sage and Powertech are lvl 14.  I'm keeping them parallel for the time being.  Courosant is such a weird world with all the buildings and stuff.  I agree with Qyzen that its too much city.

Dromund Kaas (I think is spelled?) is a pretty odd mix of super big Imperial City mixed with overgrown wilderness.

Grobb, my Powertech is such a badass, but has a soft heart.  This is the first MMO that I've ever thought of my characters as having a personality.

I misread an item description, taking an orange offhand pistol for Grobb who doesn't use them, passing up a blue offhand thingy from a Heroic.  The little text saying it was an offhand weapon was hard to spot.  Reading comprehension and all that.

Also, not being able to drop equipment in the middle of the character screen for companions is making me destroy things when mistaking the destroy prompt for the bind on equip prompt.  Frustrating, but just a growing pain with a new interface.

All in all this game is a blast.  How is everyone else finding it?  I only ever see Jharm, and maybe Tyvaris sometimes online when I'm on.

I apologize for my absence in game. I should hopefully have more time and energy to level my characters once the holidays are over.

Sooo I ended up caving after watching a friend play, and holy crap, this game is amazing.  I'll be playing with my RL friends mostly, but I'd be glad to try out alts and hang out with you guys every once in awhile. :)

I went with the Imperial Agent/Operative, and I swear, I'm lvl25 and been doing constant PvP... I've seen one other person that's an operative.  People don't know how to react.  I run up, start knifing them, and they seem really confused as to why I have a blaster at all.

So in the past few weeks I've been busy bumping around the game.  My alt-itis has been in full swing.  Grobb the Powertech is 20 and steadily climbing.  He found an orange recipe for armormech and money has been nice from selling on the GTM.  He's done both Black Talon and Hammer Station.  With the healer companion he solo'd Black talon at like 17/18.  Quite the beast.

Pri'lada the Sage is sitting at 15.  She kept my attention for a while but the Consular story just kinda fizzled I felt.

I made a Jedi Knight called Hef'ty.  Probably going dual wield Jedi man with him.

Also made a Smuggler named Kax.  I tried the Imperial Agent but the whole spy story didn't appeal to me.  I love teaming up with IA's with Grobb and they look cool but I'd rather the a merc than an Imperial.

I'd like to find a Republic side character to stick with so that I can get to endgame with you all.  Right now its a tossup between JK and Smuggler.

Also, thanks Jharm for sending so many things to my Consular!  Hopefully I can return the favor.

Well story-wise I think the smuggler class story is freaking awesome :) If you like the bounty hunter class story the smuggler is similar in some ways, plus you play as a character who generally operates outside of the ruling govt's laws.  Both AC's are pretty awesome, been half-tempted to make another smuggler and have him/her go Gunslinger but prolly not gonna do that.

Also...im really enjoying both the IA's storyline and BH's storyline.  Playing an Operative just seems to fit so well with the concept of an Imp agent hehe.

Also, so far im seeing Kith having a large interest in Empire via his BH, no real idea if anyone has made any Empire toons themselves.  IF (and that is a big IF) people are interested in an Empire side guild please let me know.  As it sits now if an Empire guild is created it will be a "casual" guild and will probably not be aimed at end-game unless everyone decides to hop over to Empire "permanently".

If you're on Empire side send Grobb a tell if I'm on.  He's armormech so I can make some stuff if for you if you're a BH or IA.

Also I think I'm going to stick with the smuggler - gunslinger.  I'm almost off the starter planet with him.  The story and the cover mechanics are pretty nifty.

Damn. Maybe I should have just rolled Empire in the first place then.  :P

If everyone wants to change to empire we can do that, i have characters on both sides i enjoy playing.  If more interest is expressed for such a thing I will put up a poll.  This is also something I will discuss with Fei when I see him later.

I think guilds on both sides is fine.  The storylines for each class are so awesome I can see everyone having multiple characters.
