Name: Rafael Marlon
Background:
Rafael doesn’t remember his parents nor his actual origin since his first memories are those of being sold to a brothel in Coldview. In his early years he would usually do manual labor and on occasions serve the tastes of some of the more peculiar customers. One of those customers was a wealthy merchant woman. When in Coldview she would always visit him sometimes even a few days in a roll. After a month or so on her last visit the woman offered him to run away with her. Knowing that there is no future for him in this brothel Rafael gladly accepted a chance to get out.
Her name was Eden de Moore. She was in her late twenties and a traveling merchant/smuggler. She did business around Coldview, Redfield and Mormount. Rafael knew that she would get tired from his sooner or later so he actively tried to take part in the business quickly learning everything he could. Eden saw the boy’s eagerness to learn and was delighted to teach him. In the few years that followed he learned how to do accounting, woo in customers, the manners and etiquettes of nobility and got familiar with the smugglers roads. After a few encounters with the law and unsatisfied customers Eden thought it was a good idea to teach him how to fend for himself. She taught him the basics of how to handle a bow and later focused on teaching him how to use a dagger because with his young and innocent face few would see him as a threat, before he takes out his concealed daggers.
4 years passed as he traveled around with Eden and her men when he realized that she started spending less and less time with him. An obvious sign that he should be looking for a way to leave her company. He couldn’t bear to just leave her so he decided to take all the gold he can carry and inform the local guards of the human traffickers residing in the nearby tavern and the whereabouts of their precious cargo, after all the woman did use him for a few year he only saw it fit to repay her in kind.
Shortly after at the age of 18 he began his life of a merchant. With the small fortune he stole from Eden setting up a caravan and buying goods was an easy task. By the age of 24 he was already an established merchant never dealing in human trafficking or the likes his worst offence would be smuggling a thing or two for his more picky customers.
Physical Appearance:
His childish face, silky short black hair and tailored clothes give Rafael looks above those of a handsome man. With his manners and etiquette he could easily be mistaken for nobility if he had at least a dozen gold ornaments. With his charming smile and silver tongue he can sell anything to anyone though he prefers to deal with women and they do like dealing with him. The charming merchant knows that if he fights things won’t end good. With his relatively small frame and average height it won’t be much of a challenge to pin down if someone gets the chance. However, he is way faster than people give him credit for. Unfortunately running is exhausting and he can’t sprint for more than a minute, but so far he hasn’t met a man that can catch him before he reaches the nearest horse, be it on a field or in a crowd.
Personality:
Rafael has spent his life lying and telling people what they want to hear so it is no surprise that he has no friends, but only acquaintances. He speaks with a smile and throws a joke or two to set a good mood when he can. He can fake being concerned and run away a few seconds after. He would do anything to defend his most prized possession, namely his life.
Weapons:
Rafael knows how to use a bow though he would not openly carry one unless it is necessary. He is good at wielding and throwing daggers and has so far managed to conceal four of the small deadly knifes in his hidden pockets of his tailored clothes.
Skills and Abilities:
Charisma: His silver tongue coupled with his looks would often get him out of a mess. He has convinced many guards that he is merely moving his inheritance rather than selling smuggled good. Bribed many guards and criminals alike to make sure his goods reach their destination. Lying and deception is his second nature.
Keen eye: In his years of being a self-employed merchant he has learned how to spot ambushes and traps.
Dodge: Rafael might not be strong but when he has to fight he knows how to stay out of harm’s way and that the best way to defend against an attack is simply not to be there when it lands.
Street wise: Knowing where to find what you need helps when you are a merchant/smuggler.
