The Legion Immortalis- Character Creation Rules
« on: June 29, 2010, 10:53:25 PM »
SETTING

In order to effectively create your character, you must keep the setting in mind. This is a High Fantasy setting, so weapons such as shields, swords, axes, maces, bows, crossbows, or other weapons that would have been used in a Medieval setting would be best here. Guns do not exist yet, though if you have Intelligence- Knowledge, you could probably create an early form of them.

The same rules apply to armor: you could basically wear no armor, light armors (heavy cloth or leather), medium armors (scale, splint, etc.) or heavy armors (plate, etc. You may not wear heavy armor unless you have the Strength (Athletics) stat, Constitution (Soak,) or the Constitution (Endurance) stat.

As previously stated, your character will be one of the Legion Immortalis, a member of an elite group of immortals that strive to protect humanity. You have just recently been granted with the gift, so we will be picking up after your initial death. You will be sent to a Soothsayer, and from there, you will make the brief journey to Avalon, the capital city of the Ageless. You will be introduced to a few prominent NPCs and given your objectives from there.

There are two factions within the Legion Immortalis: The Ageless (you, the heroes) and the Forsaken, former Ageless who no longer desire to protect humanity and see them as a plague upon creation. Their sole desire is to purge the world of humans, whom they deem weak and undeserving as they were never granted the gift of immortality. The story of who you were as a mortal, how you died, and what you hope to achieve in your new life as one of the Legion Immortalis is paramount to this story.

Character Creation
You may, of course, do the following in any order you wish, but please be sure to meet all objectives. You will acquire new Attributes, Skills, Weapon Uses, Fighting Styles, Spell and Forms depending as the story progresses.

STEP 1: Select your ATTRIBUTES. In order to determine your attributes, please see the appropriate labeled thread. ADMIN NOTE: Click here for the thread.

STEP 2: Weapons, Fighting Styles, Spells, and Forms

Weapons- If you chose STRENGTH as a main attribute, you may choose one style from the bulleted list below:

•   Combat weapons- Use of either one or two handed weapons. Select TWO melee weapons that you excel in. If you choose a one handed weapon type, you may use a shield by default. Be specific! Do not simply say that you excel at “blades,” be sure to mention a specific type of blade (longsword, dual-wielding shortswords, greatsword, etc.) Give a description of your weapon.

•   Brawling- Your standard rough and tumble fighting styles that rely more upon strength than dexterity.

•   Improvised Fighting- Anything and everything is a weapon in your hands.

Fighting Styles- If you chose DEXTERITY as a main attribute, you may choose THREE martial arts styles or ranged weapons for your use. You may consider a mix of both martial arts and ranged combat if it suits you.

Spells- If you chose INTELLIGENCE- Spellcasting or WISDOM- Spiritual Magic, you begin with eight spells. Be sure to describe your spells and what they do.

Forms- If you chose WISDOM- Shapeshifting, you begin with FIVE forms. Remember: your forms must be animal in nature and you cannot take the forms of inanimate objects or other people. When choosing your forms, it is usually a good idea to choose at least one that flies, one that can go impressively fast, one that swims, one that can get into small spaces, and one that is large and able to inflict damage. There are some animals that can perform a variety of these tasks.

STEP 3: Physical Description

Provide an appropriate physical description of your character. Include general information such as height, weight, hair color, eye color, manner of dress, etc.

STEP 4: Create Backstory

Please view the information below in order to get yourself started. Here are some points to keep in mind.

•   You were once a mortal and retain all of your mortal memories. Be sure to discuss your character’s mortal life.

•   Most do not reach Ageless status until their late teens at the very earliest. Children are never turned into Ageless. Most Ageless have the physical appearance of someone between their 20’s-40’s, though there are a few Ageless who have been granted the gift later in life.

•   At some point in your life, you were “killed,” but rather than simply dying, you were granted a second chance. In addition, most Ageless died while protecting others, hence why the theme of self-sacrifice and the greater good is of such importance in Ageless society.

•    Though you have been granted virtual immortality, another Ageless, specifically one of the Forsaken, may still kill you through the use of your “Achilles’ heel” (this is called the Death Wound in Ageless society.) Be sure to mention where your area of weakness is and the circumstances surrounding how you should have died.

•   You are one of the Ageless because you were chosen by the God of this universe. No one knows how many gods there are; there may be one, or there may be many. As such, many Ageless struggle with their sense of purpose. Some believe they were chosen to protect humanity against the Forsaken, others believe God(s) was bored, and your struggles are merely entertainment for them. You may want to consider how you feel about joining the ranks of the Ageless.

•   Be sure to provide an accurate representation of your character’s personality. Please be as descriptive as possible.

•   Naming Conventions: For now, you must choose your mortal first name and surname. After the “Naming Ceremony” takes place, you will receive your Ageless name.

Other Notes

•   I will be providing additional information pertinent to the setting in a separate thread, just to give you an idea of what you will be working with. I will also be posting a few short biographies for the prominent NPCs you will be working with as you meet them in the story. Be advised, that if you desire other setting information, the NPC Dethys Night will serve as a wealth of information to you.
•   If you have any questions please feel free to let me know ASAP.

Please note that all ranged weapon use is now covered under the DEXTERITY attribute.
